Baked apples, caramel-coated almonds and ginger nuts are as much a part of the Christmas Market as snow is part of winter. And of course no trip to the market would be complete without a taste of gingerbread (Lebkuchen) and aniseed cookies (Springerle), fruit-loaf (Fruechtebrot) and the ‘Zwetschgenmanderl’ - little prune figures made of dried fruit and crepe paper - as well as hot chestnuts and fritters. The enticing aroma of mulled wine and punch invites you to stop and warm up at one of the stands. Other local specialties include pork sausages, cheeses and potato pancakes (Reiberdatschi), many of which are also available as organic products.
